Meiji University Center for Mathematical Modeling and Applications

The Research Institute for Time Studies (RITS) at Yamaguchi University was established in April 2000. The aim is to create Time Studies as a new interdisciplinary area of study by understanding nature, human, society, and culture from the viewpoint of time, and for society to benefit from the research results. The activities of RITS provided an important opportunity for the establishment of the Japanese Society for Time Studies.

MIMS has concluded an agreement with RITS on October 15th, 2015 to promote research activities of both Institutes, spread the research results and then contribute to the development of the academic studies of our country.
The termination date of the agreement is March 31st, 2016. It will be extended unless otherwise given notice of the cancellation of the agreement from either Institute.

The Musashino Center of Mathematical Engineering (MCME) was newly established in 2015, with the aims of conducting research in the cutting-edge field of mathematical engineering, and contributing to the development of society and welfare of humanity in order to build a sustainable society.

MIMS has concluded an agreement with MCME on October 16th, 2015 to promote research activities of both Institutes, spread the research results and then contribute to the development of the academic studies of our country. Hiroshima University is a national University in Japan which includes 11 faculties, 12 graduate schools, a major program, a research institute, a university hospital, and 11 attached schools. The campuses are located in Hiroshima, known as the International City of Peace and Civilization.

Since 2007, Hiroshima University and Meiji University have been promoting Support Program for Improving Graduate School Education*, “Formation of consortium for education integrating mathematics and life sciences” (Chair: Shinichi TATE [Professor, Hiroshima University]), selected by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). This program is aimed at fostering young researchers who will take a major role in a new academic field “Mathematical and Life Sciences”.

Moreover, since 2008, both the universities have cooperatively been promoting another selected program by MEXT; the Global COE Program “Formation and Development of Mathematical Sciences Base on Modeling and Analysis” (Project Leader: Masayasu MIMURA [Professor, Meiji University]), with the aim of establishing international education and research institute of Mathematical Sciences Based on Modeling and Analysis, and fostering highly creative researchers in the field.

On 30th January 2009, Meiji University and Hiroshima University signed a university-wide agreement, and memoranda among Graduate Schools of both universities, intended to contribute to the further development of education and research in Japan by exchanging each knowledge and experience comprehensively as well as strengthening collaboration.

Ryukoku University is a private university which includes 7 Undergraduate Schools, 9 Graduate Schools, a junior college, and a high school. The university, which marks the 370th anniversary of the foundation in 2009, has three campuses in Kansai Area (or Western Japan): the main campus in Fukakusa, Kyoto, and others in Omiya, Kyoto, and in Seta, Otsu.

The Faculty of Science and Technology, Undergraduate School, was established in 1989, and the Graduate School of Science and Technology was in 1993. Since its foundation, the Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics has played an important role as an education and research hub in Mathematical Sciences in Kansai Area. This Department is especially prominent in not only traditional Mathematics and Information Sciences, but Analysis of complex phenomena which appear in society and natural environment.

Ryukoku University and Meiji University have developed the mutual relationship with joint student exchange events for the purpose of fostering young researchers in Mathematical Sciences thorough the Support Program for Improving Graduate School Education* of MEXT, “Formation of consortium for education integrating mathematics and life sciences” (Chair: Shinichi TATE [Professor, Hiroshima University]), which Meiji University and Hiroshima University have been promoting since 2007.

In addition, Ryukoku University, as an education and research hub in “Kansai Area”, will strengthen the partnership with Meiji Institute of Mathematical Sciences (MIMS), an education and research center of Meiji University in “the Tokyo metropolitan area”. This partnership of the universities will contribute to the Global COE Program “Formation and Development of Mathematical Sciences Based on Modeling and Analysis” (Project Leader: Masayasu MIMURA [Professor, Meiji University]), selected by MEXT in FY 2008, for the purpose of worldwide development of Mathematical Sciences Based on Modeling and Analysis.

Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (National Center for Scientific Research) is a government-funded research organization under the administrative authority of France's Ministry of Research.　As the largest fundamental research organization in Europe, founded in 1939 by governmental decree, CNRS carries out research in all areas of science, technology and sociology through its nine institutes, two of which have the status of national institutes. The Meiji Institute for Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciences (MIMS) has concluded an agreement signed on October 28th, 2015, for establishment of an international research network (Groupement de recherche international: GDRI) being provided by CNRS to promote joint research in the field of mathematics with noted research institutes in Japan, France, the Republic of Korea, and Taiwan.
MIMS has appointed Dr. Masayasu Mimura, Professor and MIMS Vice Director, to serve as the project leader, and is going to promote a four-year Project of Research Fusing Biology and Mathematics by research institutes in Japan, France, Korea, and Taiwan. The GDRI is positioned as part of the international network related to the kind of 'Mathematical Sciences Based on Modeling and Analysis' advocated by Meiji University.

Agreement concerning establishment of an international research network (GDRI) As the Japanese research institute, MIMS has concluded the agreement with CNRS to promote the international joint research, GDRI, from 2015 to the end of 2018.

Project of Research Fusing Biology and Mathematics: Elucidation of complex phenomena appearing in biological, chemical, and medical systems by a process of modeling, simulation, and numerical analysis. Simultaneous development of theory through partnership among the participating institutes.

In The National Research Council (CNR), the "Istituto per le Applicazioni del Calcolo" M. Picone (IAC) is the largest mathematical institute of it. IAC was founded by Mauro Picone in 1927, and was completely renewed, with four locations in Rome, Bari, Florence and Naples in 2002. Its mission is to develop highly advanced mathematical, statistical and computational methods in order to solve, in a mostly interdisciplinary context, problems with strong relevance to society and industry. The scientific staff consists of about 55 researchers. MIMS has settled a Agreement with IAC to cooperate towards the internationalization of research and higher education.

Agreement of Cooperation between The Istituto per le Applicazioni del Calcolo “Mauro Picone”, Italian National Research Council (CNR), Italy and Meiji Institute for Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciences, Meiji University, Tokyo, Japan

The Centre for Mathematical Biology (CMB) at the University of Oxford is part of the Mathematical Institute and was established in 1983 as the first center of the Mathematical Biology in Britain. MIMS and CMB agreed to cooperate towards the exchange of young researchers including research fellows, members and postdoctoral fellows of the both sides and promotion of collaborative research projects on the fields of Mathematical Biology and Life Sciences.

On March 14, 2012, MIMS and CMB concluded an agreement for the purpose of development and internationalization of higher education and research exchange.

Among many research institutions of L'Ecole des Hautes　Études en Science Sociales (EHESS), Centre d'Analyse et de Mathématique Sociales （CAMS） is involved in mathematical research since 1960. In the context of social sciences and humanities, CAMS is developing new models to reveal the hidden structures. MIMS and CAMS have settled a memorandum to develop mutual cooperation in academic research, in order to promote formation and development of mathematical sciences, especially in social science field.

MIMS and CAMS have settled a memorandum (on March 21, 2008) to develop mutual cooperation in academic research, in order to create global scale research and higher education.

Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) (former：The National Centre for Natural Science and Technology (NCST)) is the scientific institution under the direct management of the Government with the function to conduct the research and implementation of the natural sciences and technology in the key directions of the State. Institute of Mathematics (IM) was established in 1969, and since its foundation, the IM has had important co-operative relationships with many other countries. In following years, the cooperation extends to Institutes and Universities all over the world and IMVAST also cooperate with MIMS.

MIMS and IMVAST have settled a memorandum on March 17, 2008 to develop mutual cooperation in academic research, in order to create global scale research and higher education.

Memorandum of Understanding for Research Cooperation between Meiji Institute for Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciences, Meiji University, Tokyo, Japan and Institute of Mathematics, Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology, Hanoi, Vietnam

Instituto de Matemática Interdisciplinar (The Interdisciplinary Mathematical Institute (IMI)) approved on 26th February 2007 is a University Investigation Institute from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM)). IMI is devoted to mathematical research and its applications. The mission is to promote interdisciplinary research, particularly in strategic areas (information technologies, biomedical sciences, nanotechnology, industrial applications, finance etc.) and to enhance cooperation among different mathematical and scientific fields. MIMS has settled a memorandum with Instituto de Matemática Interdisciplinar (IMI) to develop mutual cooperation in academic research, in order to foster global-scale scientific research and higher education.

MIMS and IMI have settled a memorandum on March 20, 2009 to construct an international network and to promote active exchange of researchers.

National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NCTU) was founded in the suburbs of Shanghai in 1896 under the name of Nanyang College, and it was reestablished at its present location in Hsinchu, Taiwan in 1958. MIMS has settled a Agreement with Institute of Mathematical Modeling and Scientific Computing (IMMSC) which aims to promote interdisciplinary collaboration among physics, chemistry, biomedical sciences, and engineering via the applications of scientific computing in various practical aspects.

MIMS and IMMSC have settled a memorandum on June 1, 2011 to develop mutual cooperation in academic research, in order to create global scale research and higher education.
